My original encoder brackets were fabricated from aluminum plates that were meant as covers for platic electronics project boxes. I used circuit board standoffs to separate 2 plates to form an enclosure for the gear train. The encoders hung out in the open, and the gears were exposed.
The new set up is constructed from .25" aluminum plate. It will bolt directly to the mount, and will be very rigid. The Polar encoder and gear train will be completely enclosed in aluminum. The RA (declination) gear train will be at least partially exposed, but the encoder will be enclosed. I will post some pictures so everything is clear.
